Mike's Blog - 06/11/09 - After The Cup

Wow, what a Pacific Cup, huh? I knew the tournament was going to be good, but if you had told me last week that the final would come down to El Phantasmo, Azeem The Dream and Rick The Weapon X, I would've called you loony. But that's exactly what happened, and a lot more at PacCup that surprised everybody, from the fans to the wrestlers to the officials, and led to a fantastic event! And congratulations to El Phantasmo, who finally broke through and won the Pacific Cup tournament.

But here in ECCW, we're always looking forward, and I'm looking forward to June 26th in Surrey, and of course, TLC 4-WAY on July 4th.

First off, fallout from Pacific Cup. As everybody knows, MANTHER missed the Pacific Cup tournament due to injuries thanks to the Church of the Divine Prophecy, and specifically, Matt Classic giving him a curbstomp onto that suspiciously heavy book of The Divine Prophet's. I didn't know the word of the Lord weighed that much, but whatever that book's made of, it gave MANTHER a serious concussion and unknown damage to his neck, and he was still seeing mice going around his head when I tried to talk to him early last week. Thankfully, as I was considering options for filling his spot at the Pacific Cup, I received a message on Facebook from Rick The Weapon X, who said he was coming back for some time and wanted an opportunity to shine again in ECCW! They say luck is preparation meeting opportunity, and Rick definitely took advantage of it at PacCup, and he showed everybody something. He might not have won, but he came darn close, and it's good to have him back. I'm sure Tony Baroni would have a different answer, but that's his problem.

Unfortunately, MANTHER wasn't the only injury, with Artemis Spencer suffering a knee injury during his first round matchup at the Pacific Cup tournament, and being replaced by the designated alternate, Nick Price. Spencer was taken to the hospital and, from my latest indications, suffered a dislocated knee and a chipped femur bone. Now, this is my blog, and I can editorialize a bit here. I heard the Prophet talk about how the Lord works in mysterious ways.. but I wonder if Prophet's heard of karma before. Artemis Spencer's had no issues with attempting to injure and cripple ECCW stars before - some to the point that they fled ECCW for lesser pastures rather than deal with him. And Spencer certainly had no problems with helping Classic and the Prophet injure MANTHER and take him out of the Pacific Cup last week.. and Artemis definitely had no problem trying to break Nicole Matthews' neck at PacCup. So who knows.. maybe it's a sign. In any event, I wish Spencer the best of luck in his recovery, and would like to remind him that he has just about four weeks' time until he'll be defending the NWA Canadian junior heavyweight title at TLC 4-WAY against "Brilliant" Billy Suede!

Everybody knows what's up on July 4th. Memphis, Kenny Lush, Scotty Mac and Sid Sylum, battling it out in a TLC match for the NWA/ECCW Championship. But before that, the four men will be competing against each other in a special preview of TLC 4-WAY that I've signed as the main event for June 26th - as Kenny Lush and Memphis will team once more against Scotty Mac and Sid Sylum! I can already see this one being a war, and who knows.. it might not even be the two teams going against each other that'll be the war, but the partners themselves. Let's face it, TLC 4-WAY is for the biggest prize in ECCW, and everybody wants that belt. And with what's happened with Sylum and Scotty recently.. all bets are off going into June 26th and TLC 4-WAY.

We've got a title match in Surrey as well, and it stems from the last time in Surrey. All I know is that in the middle of a tag team match, I ended up getting speared by Volt Vegas, and the next time I looked up, I saw Volt and Jamie Diaz going at it with chairs. I don't know exactly what's going on here, but last I checked, chairs were meant to be sat in, not swung at each others' heads. I'm more than a little sick of the rookies coming in and using chairs and tables and whatnot when they don't get their way, instead of outwrestling each other and fighting head to head. So if Volt and Jamie want to swing chairs, that's fine - they can try swinging them at Moondog Manson on June 26th and see how far they get. Who knows, maybe one of them will become the new ECCW Hardcore champion when it's all over. And if I've got one piece of advice for Volt and Jamie.. well, I don't have any. I wish them luck, though - they're both going to need it.

That's not all. On June 26th in Surrey, we'll have the return of Gurv & Harv, the Sihra Brothers, in tag team action against two members of the Church of the Divine Prophecy! The Church attacked Harv Sihra previously and took him out of action, but after they've both been around the globe seeking competition, they've demanded a shot at retribution and I'm glad to give it to them. In addition, on June 26th, Dropkick Murphy will go one on one with "Brilliant" Billy Suede, and with the luck that Dropkick's had recently against junior heavyweights, he had better watch out for Suede.

With a packed show on June 26th, and TLC 4-WAY on July 4th in Vancouver, we're going past the fantastic Pacific Cup and into bigger and better things - and I personally can't wait!
