2009 PACIFIC CUP TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
MANTHER vs. Tony Baroni
Two of the three members of Egos & Icons are in the first round of the Pacific Cup tournament, and the cockiest of them may be Tony Baroni. Standing in the way of the arrogant SLAM Academy star is MANTHER, who is enjoying a huge surge of popularity since breaking away from the Church of the Divine Prophecy! Something MANTHER was NOT enjoying, however, was the severe beating last Friday at the hands of The Divine Prophet and Matt Classic, which leaves him in questionable condition for the Pacific Cup. Can MANTHER recover enough in just an eight-day span to compete in his first Pacific Cup, or will Tony Baroni sail on by into the second round by a whisker?
2009 PACIFIC CUP TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
"Brilliant" Billy Suede vs. Mattias Wild
Billy Suede's breakout over the past year began with his victory in the 2008 Pacific Cup tournament, culminating in a dominant seven-month reign as NWA Canadian heavyweight champion! With Suede on the track for a second championship run, he will also attempt to become the first repeat winner of the Pacific Cup tournament! In round one, Suede will face off against Albertan standout Mattias Wild, who has wowed ECCW fans over the past few months! Suede may be the favorite in the contest, but Wild is ready for the upset over the former champion that will catapult him to the top of the junior heavyweight division - and the 2009 Pacific Cup tournament!
2009 PACIFIC CUP TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
Nicole Matthews vs. Artemis Spencer
Two months ago, Nicole Matthews made ECCW history by becoming the first woman to qualify for the Pacific Cup tournament! However, Nicole's dream of becoming the first female Pacific Cup winner has the most difficult roadblock possible - Artemis Spencer, the crown jewel of the Church of the Divine Prophecy and the reigning NWA Canadian junior heavyweight champion! Spencer has already made it clear to Nicole that he will not treat her any differently than any other male in the ring - and perhaps even worse, considering her audacity of believing she can "compete with the boys!" However, Artemis has never won a match in the Pacific Cup tournament before.. and while Nicole is the decided underdog going into the Pacific Cup, miracles have happened in ECCW before!
2009 PACIFIC CUP TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
El Phantasmo vs. "Superfly" Dan Myers
El Phantasmo came ever so close last year to winning the Pacific Cup tournament, and this year, he's looking to follow in the steps of ECCW legends Asian Coogar and Black Dragon in becoming the third masked man to win the Pacific Cup tournament! However, "Superfly" Dan Myers has vowed not to make it easy for him! Myers was very impressive in his qualifying match victory over Brandon Van Danielson, and he intends to use the skills shown there to score the upset over Phantasmo! But if we've been taught anything, it's that Phantasmo always has a trick up his sleeve!
2009 PACIFIC CUP TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
"Untouchable" Jamie Diaz vs. "Ravenous" Randy Myers
This is Jamie Diaz' tournament, and the other eleven wrestlers just happen to be in it. At least, that's what he tells you. Diaz definitely is one of the egos in Egos & Icons, and he intends to become an icon by winning the Pacific Cup tournament! In his way, however, is Alberta's favorite son, "Ravenous" Randy Myers, who has quickly become one of the ECCW fans' favorites over the past year! With a strong showing last year in the Pacific Cup with his epic contest against El Phantasmo, the Ravenous One says he'll be the cock of the walk this year.. and as always, rockin' the hawk!
2009 PACIFIC CUP TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH
Kyle O'Reilly vs. Azeem The Dream
What is perhaps the most heated first round contest in the 2009 Pacific Cup this year will see former three-time NWA Canadian junior heavyweight champion Kyle O'Reilly square off against Chill Town's Azeem The Dream! The two nearly came to blows at the end of the bracket drawing last Friday in Surrey, having to be kept apart from attacking each other! Last year, O'Reilly eliminated Azeem in the second round of the Pacific Cup.. and Azeem vows he'll get revenge by eliminating the 2007 Pacific Cup champion in the very first round! O'Reilly has been growing increasingly frustrated over not being able to win back the NWA Canadian junior heavyweight title... but will that frustration boil over at the Pacific Cup, or has Azeem succeeded in getting under O'Reilly's skin to the point that he'll make a mistake?
NWA/ECCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Pop Culture (champions) vs. Kenny Lush & Memphis (challengers)
On March 27th, Ice and Bishop finally backed up their claims of greatness by winning the NWA/ECCW tag team championship, though as always with Pop Culture, there was more than meets the eye! In the midst of the title defense, Kenny Lush found himself fighting two-on-one after his partner, Nelson Creed, walked out on him, leaving him to lose the tag team title by himself! Now, just over two months later, Kenny Lush has decided to exercise his rematch clause for a chance to regain what was once his. But with Nelson Creed having abandoned him, Lush was without a partner.. until he announced that his new partner would be Memphis! With his own beefs against Pop Culture stemming from a recent contest on Vancouver Island, the NWA/ECCW Champion will be glad to team with the "Loose Cannon" to try to pry the NWA/ECCW tag team championship from Pop Culture's waists!
This Saturday night, all the questions will be answered! Who will be the 2009 Pacific Cup champion? Find out this Saturday in Vancouver at the Russian Community Centre! Be there when doors open at 7 PM, with the show starting at 7:30 PM! Tickets are on sale here on ECCW.com! Don't you dare miss the 2009 Pacific Cup!
