PREVIEW: This Saturday Night In Vancouver!
NWA/ECCW CHAMPIONSHIP
Memphis (Champion) vs. Sid Sylum (Challenger)
Memphis is trying to become the fightingest NWA/ECCW Championship in this company's rich history. But this match is not just another title defense - it's personal. In November 2008 at the Bridgeview Hall, Memphis lost the NWA/ECCW Championship to Scotty Mac in an I Quit match. But Scotty did not lock on the Regal Stretch, or hurt him so bad that Memphis had to mutter those words... rather, Chill Town cohort Sid Sylum threatened to Tombstone Memphis' girlfriend on a chair. That one action spawned Memphis into an uncontrollable rage. Memphis got a piece of Sylum shortly thereafter, but by no means was that thirst for blood quenched. A couple months have passed and Sylum is on a great roll, going through men like Kenny Lush, Nelson Creed and Billy Suede in singles action. So the question remains, can Memphis treat Sylum like a great challenger and try to beat him? Or will his anger and rage come back and overtake the champion? Either way, it should prove to be a classic!
NWA CANADIAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Scotty Mac (Champion) vs. Kenny Lush (Challenger)
Kenny Lush and Memphis were set to square off last month in Vancouver for the NWA/ECCW Championship. Two well respected men having a battle to see who should be named champ. But Chill Town's The Natural and Azeem The Dream decided to make this matchup their business, since both men are part of TLC4 on July 4th. But it became crystal clear that their target was Lush, as Lush eliminated Chill Town's Dropkick Murphy last in March's Extreme Rules Rumble to gain entry into TLC4, by costing Lush the victory and the NWA/ECCW Championship. Even though Memphis and Lush had no beef, they were irate at Chill Town's actions, and Kenny Lush told Natural that Scotty Mac is a coward and that if he was a real man, he would put his title on the line against him! The match has been set, but we know Chill Town will be in full force as Kenny Lush and Scotty Mac meet for the first time ever, and the stakes could not be higher than the NWA Canadian heavyweight championship! Can the Vancouver favourite overcome Chill Town and gain his first singles gold in ECCW? Make sure to come to Vancouver and find out!
NWA/ECCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Pop Culture (Champions) vs. Lumberjack Bubba & Junior (Challengers)
When Pop Culture tried to claim they were the best singers in ECCW at ECCW Idol, special judge Mother Diaz called shenanigans! When Pop Culture got physical, Lumberjack Bubba and Junior came to her aid, infuriating Pop Culture. Well, now Pop Culture are the NWA/ECCW tag team champions, and there is no one they want to give that first title defense on the Lower Mainland to more than the lumberjacks! Pop Culture hopes this is the first of many title successful defenses, but Bubba and Junior have other plans!
Dropkick Murphy vs. Kyle O'Reilly
In what is somewhat of a dream match, Dropkick Murphy and Kyle O'Reilly square off on May 2nd at the RCC. It's hard to believe, but neither man has had a meaningful singles match against each other ever. While both have been NWA Canadian junior heavyweight champion, neither have stepped into the ring against each other one on one - but that won't mean they won't tear into each other! Kyle O'Reilly is training vigorously for the 2009 Pacific Cup, while Dropkick was within an eyelash of winning the Extreme Rules Rumble and entering TLC4. Both men have title match desires and need this win to stay a contender to the championship gold they desire, and it should be a great match this Saturday night!
THE FINAL TWO 2009 PACIFIC CUP QUALIFYING MATCHES!
Ten of ECCW's finest junior heavyweights have already qualified for the 2009 Pacific Cup. They are Kyle O'Reilly, "Untouchable" Jamie Diaz, Azeem the Dream, "Ravenous" Randy Myers, "Superfly" Dan Myers, Artemis Spencer, Tony Baroni, Nicole Matthews, "Brilliant" Billy Suede and El Phantasmo. Two others will join this illustrious group, but those matches are being kept at top secret by NWA representative Mike Sweetser. Most of ECCW's current mainstays in the junior heavyweight division has already competed in a Pacific Cup qualifier, so many ECCW experts are a little baffled on who will get these matches. But one thing is for sure; whoever wins these matches will have one hell of a road to be crowned the 2009 Pacific Cup Champion!
