Mike's Blog - 06/29/09 - TLC 4 In Less Than 6
Well, that was certainly unexpected.
I never thought that we would've gone into this past Friday night in Surrey with one championship on the line in TLC 4-WAY, only for a *different* one to be up for grabs just a few hours later, but that's exactly what happened. I've had a number of questions regarding what happened - and rightfully so - and I figure this is as good a place as any to explain.
RESULTS: TLC4 Preview Chaos!
The events of June 26th in Surrey have passed, and in their wake, the upcoming TLC 4-WAY on July 4th in Vancouver has been thrown into chaos, with the TLC 4-WAY itself changed upside-down, and new championship matches signed for the mega-event at the Russian Community Centre!
As NWA Pacific Northwest representative Mike Sweetser addressed the Surrey crowd to announce new matches for the TLC 4-WAY event, Memphis stormed to the ring, ranting against his brother MR2, the way MR2 cost him the NWA/ECCW tag team title, and his theft of the NWA/ECCW Championship belt, and demanding that he be taken out of TLC 4-WAY and put into a defense of the NWA/ECCW Championship against MR2! Before Sweetser could respond, MR2 strolled to the ring, the NWA/ECCW Championship belt hanging from his shoulder, and said he'd be happy to put "his" belt on the line at TLC 4-WAY, if Memphis begged him for a shot at "his" title. Sweetser interrupted, stating that if Memphis did indeed get his way, there would be no prize on the line in the TLC 4-WAY match. Memphis countered with his own idea - instead of Memphis' NWA/ECCW Championship hanging from the balcony of the Russian Community Centre, it should be Scotty Mac's NWA Canadian heavyweight championship belt!
This brought out Chill Town members Scotty Mac, Sid Sylum & The Natural, and to say Scotty Mac was livid at the suggestion of *his* title being put on the line in TLC 4-WAY would be a grave understatement, as he had signed for a chance to regain the NWA/ECCW Championship and did not want to give that up! The Natural tried to suggest an idea to Scotty, which Scotty had nothing to do with. Undaunted, Natural told Sweetser that Scotty would put the NWA Canadian heavyweight championship on the line in TLC 4-WAY - but only if Sweetser rescinded the ban on the piledriver, thus making Sylum's devastating Tombstone piledriver a legal maneuver once again! After considering the plan, Sweetser shook Natural's hand, sealing the deal and putting the NWA Canadian heavyweight championship on the line in TLC 4-WAY! Scotty Mac blew his stack at the turn of events, even slapping Sylum across the face when he tried to hold him back! Sylum and Scotty had to be held back by Chill Town members, who will now be fighting against each other in TLC 4-WAY to try to keep the remaining championship gold in Chill Town!
With Memphis' challenge accepted, the NWA/ECCW Champion was now no longer a part of TLC 4-WAY, but his replacement was found soon enough! The main event TLC preview tag team encounter now pitted Scotty Mac & Sid Sylum against the team of Kenny Lush... and El Phantasmo, who became the fourth participant in TLC 4-WAY! The tag team match quickly turned into total war with both teams tearing into each other to get any sort of advantage going into TLC 4-WAY! As referee Tommy Stripes was taken out of commission by accident, a chair was introduced into the contest, but Phantasmo accidentally hit Lush with the chair, leaving him open for a diving headbutt by Sylum to score the victory for Chill Town! After the match, a table and ladder was brought into the ring, as Scotty Mac was set to legdrop Lush through the table! However, Lush fought Sylum away from the table, leaving Scotty open for Phantasmo to climb the ladder and drive him through the table with a PKO off the ladder! Phantasmo and Lush celebrated the downing of Chill Town.. only for Lush to blast Phantasmo with a steel chair as payback for what happened during the match! This Saturday night, it will be Kenny Lush, El Phantasmo, Sid Sylum and Scotty Mac climbing the ladder in TLC 4-WAY, with the NWA Canadian heavyweight championship as the ultimate prize in the sky!
Earlier in the night, the championship landscape was changed in another way, as Artemis Spencer announced that he would be vacating the NWA Canadian junior heavyweight championship, due to a severe knee injury suffered at the 2009 Pacific Cup tournament. It was later announced that the championship would not be vacant for long, as a four-man gauntlet match was signed for TLC 4-WAY, with Azeem The Dream, Jamie Diaz, Harv Sihra and "Brilliant" Billy Suede battling it out for the championship! This is a golden opportunity for all four men to lay their hands on the top junior heavyweight prize in Canada in one night!
The fans in Surrey were treated to a hardcore war, as the events of the previous month saw Moondog Manson defend the ECCW Hardcore championship against Jamie Diaz and Volt Vegas in a triple threat hardcore match that went all over the Bridgeview Hall! Both Vegas and Diaz bled profusely from the battering during the match, but both men held their own and showed they were ready to hang with the nine-time ECCW Hardcore champion! However, both men, still battling each other over the tag team encounter the previous month that got them into this predicament, could not put those differences aside long enough to prevent Manson from piledriving Vegas and powerbombing Diaz to score the pinfall to retain the ECCW Hardcore title!
Another injury also had ramifications on the events in Surrey, as Gurv Sihra injured his shoulder in a match against "Ravenous" Randy Myers and was unable to compete in Surrey. Gurv's younger brother Harv Sirha stated that even though his brother could not compete, he would be happy to entertain the fans in Surrey.. and did so by facing Ice one-on-one! The Bollywood Don and the Larger Than Life Superstar went at it, but during the match, Junior came to ringside, still in love with the newest member of Pop Culture, Veronika Vice! As Junior tried to speak with the SuperGirls champion, Harv surprised Ice with a rollup - and holding the tights - to score the upset victory! Ice was livid at Junior, which came to a head later in the night, after Bishop's victory over Rick The Weapon X. Junior interrupted the post match celebration to try to talk to Veronika again, only for Pop Culture to viciously attack the lovable giant! Junior's uncle Lumberjack Bubba ran Pop Culture off, but the damage has been done.. but what will it take for Pop Culture to keep Junior away from the "love of his life"?
With Gurv Sihra out of action, The Church of the Divine Prophecy suddenly had no opponents in Surrey, a fact that The Divine Prophet made NWA Pacific Northwest representative Mike Sweetser aware of. Sweetser countered by stating that a new tag team in ECCW had made it known they wanted some competition as well.. and brought out MANTHER, a former member of the Church! As the Church laughed at MANTHER, saying he had no partner, MANTHER begged to differ, bringing out his new tag team partner.. "Southern Comfort" Ray Brooks! The Natural was very unhappy with Brooks teaming with MANTHER, but the duo, now known as The Cat & The Fiddle squared off against Mike Dempsey & Matt Classic and looked as good as if they had been teaming for years, scoring the win against the Church, even knocking The Divine Prophet himself from the apron! MANTHER & Brooks will try to parlay their immediate success into championship gold this Saturday at TLC 4-WAY, as they will be part of a big triple threat match, as Pop Culture defends the NWA/ECCW tag team championship against Egos & Icons' Nick Price & Tony Baroni, and The Cat & The Fiddle!
Cremator change in demeanor has been the talk of ECCW fans ever since last Surrey, where he tore the mask from Callos and left him laying in the ring. This month, he faced off against "Dastardly" Danni Deeds, and made short work of the lovable nerd, spiking him down with a spinning slam to gain the victory. But Cremator was not finished, as he produced an airtight bodybag, and proceeded to try to stuff Deeds into it! Volt Vegas, Ray Brooks & MANTHER ran to the ring to try to stop the seven-foot monster, to no avail. Finally, as the trio was able to briefly restrain Cremator, El Phantasmo ran to the ring, quickly snatching away Cremator's bodybag! Cremator broke free of the wrestlers holding him back and stalked after Phantasmo, chasing him to the back!
In other action in Surrey, Chill Town's Dropkick Murphy pinned Scott Steel, and BJ Laredo destroyed Callos in the opening match, leaving him laying in the ring and covered in his disgusting tobacco spit!
It's finally here! This Saturday, July 4th, it's TLC 4-WAY from the Russian Community Centre in Vancouver! The NWA Canadian heavyweight championship will be hanging from the balcony in the TLC match, as Scotty Mac, Sid Sylum, Kenny Lush and El Phantasmo battle it out with tables, ladder and chairs! The NWA/ECCW Championship will be on the line as Memphis tries to gain revenge against his turncoat brother MR2! Pop Culture defends the NWA/ECCW tag team championship against Egos & Icons and The Cat & The Fiddle, and a new NWA Canadian junior heavyweight champion will be crowned in Vancouver, as Azeem The Dream, Harv Sihra, Jamie Diaz and "Brilliant" Billy Suede do battle for the gold in a four-man gauntlet match! All this and more from the Russian Community Centre in Vancouver this Saturday night, July 4th! Tickets are on sale here on ECCW.com, and don't you dare miss one of the biggest events of the year, brought to you by ECCW!
Mike's Blog - 06/11/09 - After The Cup
Wow, what a Pacific Cup, huh? I knew the tournament was going to be good, but if you had told me last week that the final would come down to El Phantasmo, Azeem The Dream and Rick The Weapon X, I would've called you loony. But that's exactly what happened, and a lot more at PacCup that surprised everybody, from the fans to the wrestlers to the officials, and led to a fantastic event! And congratulations to El Phantasmo, who finally broke through and won the Pacific Cup tournament.
But here in ECCW, we're always looking forward, and I'm looking forward to June 26th in Surrey, and of course, TLC 4-WAY on July 4th.
RESULTS: El Phantasmo Wins The Pacific Cup!
After a wild and unpredictable tournament full of surprises and upsets, El Phantasmo emerged as the 2009 Pacific Cup champion, defeating Azeem The Dream and the returning Rick The Weapon X in the three-way tournament final! The roads of all three men into the final of the 9th annual battle of the top junior heavyweights was varied between all three, with all roads leading to the final.
Phantasmo started his road to the Pacific Cup tournament final with a decisive victory over Alberta's "Superfly" Dan Myers, outsmarting the "Superfly" by feinting a frog splash, then leaping even further than before to splatter Myers with the frog splash for the victory! Phantasmo's opponent in round two was supposed to be Artemis Spencer, who made short work of former SuperGirls champion Nicole Matthews; however, in the course of the victory, Nicole's own prediction for Spencer also came true, as the NWA Canadian junior heavyweight champion suffered an injury to his left knee and could not continue past the first round. Over the shrieking protests of The Divine Prophet, Spencer was replaced by designated alternate Nick Price, who gave Phantasmo all he could handle in a fantastic contest, before Phantasmo caught him in an anklelock for the submission to get into the Pacific Cup final for the second straight year!
Egos & Icons thought that Tony Baroni would have an easy route into the second round, as MANTHER was unable to compete in the Pacific Cup due to the heinous attack by The Church of the Divine Prophecy last Friday in Surrey. NWA Pacific Northwest representative Mike Sweetser announced MANTHER's injury, but said that Baroni would *not* win by forfeit, as he had pulled some strings to find a replacement - the returningRick The Weapon X! The fired up Australian made short work of Baroni to advance to the second round, where he met the 2008 Pacific Cup champion, "Brilliant" Billy Suede, who advanced after a hard-fought victory over Mattias Wild. Suede had his eyes on the finals, but he ran into a raging buzzsaw in Rick The Weapon X, who countered Suede into an O'Connor Roll to score the pinfall and advance into his first Pacific Cup final!
The most heated battle of the tournament was the opening round contest between Azeem The Dream and Kyle O'Reilly, as the two got into it at the Pacific Cup drawing in Surrey. The bad blood rolled into this contest, but O'Reilly went in with a decided disadvantage - a serious injury to his left knee. O'Reilly gutted it out and took the fight to Azeem, but Azeem took advantage of the injury late in the match, striking O'Reilly with a superkick to the bad knee, then turning his lights out with a second superkick to the chin that gave Azeem the upset victory over the 2007 Pacific Cup champion! Azeem advanced to round two to face "Ravenous" Randy Myers, who took out Egos & Icons member Jamie Diaz in round one. Just as it looked as Myers had it won and would meet Rick The Weapon X and his old nemesis El Phantasmo in the final, referee Tommy Stripes ended up in a crossfire between Azeem and Myers and was taken out of the match. Azeem's fellow Chill Town member Ray Brooks attempted to interfere with a chair, but took the same chair into the face from Myers.. but this gave Azeem the opening to strike "The Ravenous One" down with a superkick to score the win and go to the final of the Pacific Cup for the first time!
The stage was set for the Pacific Cup final - El Phantasmo vs. Rick The Weapon X vs. Azeem The Dream! Azeem was in for a world of hurt at the start of the match, as Phantasmo and Rick formed an alliance to batter the Chill Town member from one end of the ring to the other! However, alliances in triple threat matches are always short-lived, and this was no exception, as Rick lulled Phantasmo into leaving himself open, then nearly took his head off with a vicious clothesline! From there, it was every man for himself as Azeem took his openings and Rick and Phantasmo went at it. Rick was finally eliminated by a surprising combined effort from Phantasmo and Azeem, with a superkick by Azeem and an PKO by Phantasmo taking Rick out of the match, and leaving Phantasmo and Azeem to battle one on one to decide the Pacific Cup champion. Each man, tired from their previous two matches, gave it their all, with Phantasmo surviving Azeem's superkick and Azeem getting out of Phantasmo's anklelock, with Phantasmo one-upping Azeem with a spectacular frog splash all the way across the ring to score the victory and become the 2009 Pacific Cup champion! Last year's winner, "Brilliant" Billy Suede, presented the Pacific Cup trophy to Phantasmo and raised his hand as the crowd went wild for El Phantasmo, the 2009 Pacific Cup champion!
In non-tournament action, the team of Kenny Lush and NWA/ECCW Champion Memphis joined forces to try to end the title reign of Pop Culture in a completely wild and out control contest for the NWA/ECCW tag team championship! After weathering the storm of Lush and Memphis, Ice and Bishop were able to isolate Memphis in the ring, working over the champion's injured ribs even further. Memphis was able to take Ice down and go for the tag to Lush, but Lush was distracted by Scotty Mac, who was egging Lush on from the commentary table! As Lush went after Scotty, he was blindsided by Sid Sylum, who slammed Lush in the face with a ladder! Memphis was left alone in the ring, and Memphis' brother MR2 struck like a viper, swooping in and stealing Memphis' NWA/ECCW Championship, the belt that MR2 wants so badly! Memphis was distracted by his brother stealing his championship gold, and was surprised from behind by Ice with his own finisher, the lungblower, for the pinfall and a successful defense by Pop Culture! After the conclusion of the match, Sylum and Scotty attempted to take out Lush and Memphis with the tools of TLC4 - tables, ladders and chairs - only for Lush and Memphis to combine to evict the Chill Town members from the ring! Kenny Lush and Memphis are allied, as are Sid Sylum and Scotty Mac, but at TLC4, it will be every man for themselves, as they fight for the NWA/ECCW Championship!
In other non-tournament action, Tenille Dashwood scored the win over SLAM Academy student KC Spinelli.
Friday night, June 26th marks ECCW's return to the Bridgeview Hall in Surrey for another hot night of ECCW action! Already signed for the event is a triple threat match for the ECCW Hardcore championship, as Moondog Manson puts his gold on the line against Volt Vegas and Egos & Icons member Jamie Diaz! Then eight days later on Saturday night, July 4th, it's TLC4 at the Russian Community Centre in Vancover, as the NWA/ECCW Championship will be hanging from the balcony as Memphis, Scotty Mac, Sid Sylum and Kenny Lush battle in a TLC match! Also, there will be no time limit and no excuses, as Artemis Spencer puts the NWA Canadian junior heavyweight title on the line against former champion "Brilliant" Billy Suede! Tickets are on sale now here on ECCW.com! Don't miss June 26th in Surrey, and don't you dare miss TLC4 on July 4th!
