NEW FACES, RETURNING FACES ON AUGUST 29TH AND 30TH
Former NWA/ECCW Champion Black Dragon, former PZW heavyweight champion Adrian Walls, and the team of The Kelownafornians (Adam Fedex & Collin Cutler) will all be in action at the ECCW live events in Surrey on Friday night, August 29th and Vancouver on Saturday night, August 30th.
Black Dragon is one of Scotty Mac's longest rivals, and was the man Scotty defeated in May 2002 to win his first of four NWA/ECCW Championships. Earlier this year, Scotty scored a victory over Dragon in Scotty's hometown of Kelowna.. but now, Dragon wants to repay the favor, and take Scotty's NWA/ECCW Championship to boot!
Adrian Walls will make his ECCW debut on August 29th in Surrey, against El Phantasmo, and will then face Black Dragon on August 30th in Vancouver. Walls, a Lethbridge native, is a cagey wrestler that parlayed his extensive MMA training and a large variety of devastating suplexes into a year-plus reign as PZW's heavyweight champion, and will bring those skills to try to knock off not only the number one contender to the NWA/ECCW Championship in Phantasmo, but a bonafide ECCW legend in Black Dragon! In addition, if Dragon were to beat Scotty Mac on August 29th in Surrey, there's a very good chance that Walls' match with Dragon would become a chance for him to walk out of his first weekend in ECCW with the promotion's richest prize!
Adam Fedex and Collin Cutler are recent graduates of the Storm Wrestling Academy, with Cutler making his ECCW debut two months ago in an effort to qualify for the Pacific Cup tournament. Cutler lost a hard-fought match to Black Dragon, but impressed ECCW officials with his heart and skill, and he and his partner will attempt to make their mark on ECCW. In Surrey, Cutler will step into the ring one on one with the former Halo, Artemis Spencer, and in Vancouver, The Kelownafornians will make their tag team debut against the team of "Mad Dog" Marty Sugar and Pink Panther
DISCO FURY INJURED BY CHILL TOWN
On August 2nd in Vancouver, Disco Fury suffered a severe neck injury at the hands of Chill Town members Sid Sylum, Nicole Matthews & Azeem The Dream, as well as Artemis Spencer, as Sylum and Spencer combined for a spiked Tombstone piledriver on Disco through a steel chair. The chair was destroyed by the impact of the chair, and Disco fared no better, being knocked unconscious and requiring medical attention immediately afterward.
Disco Fury is currently seeing a spinal specialist in Maple Ridge regarding the condition of his neck, which has given him serious problems since the attack by Chill Town and Spencer, including giving him a "stinger" which caused pain in his extremities. As of right now, Disco is out of action with no timeline as to his return, and ECCW wishes him the best in his recovery.
In the meantime, ECCW officials are currently considering possible sanctions, including fines and suspensions, to Sylum, Matthews, Azeem and Spencer, as well as the possible long-term ramifications of this unprovoked attack. Stay tuned to ECCW.com for updates on this situation as they become available.
DREW SAVAGE - NEW ECCW RING ANNOUNCER
Long-time ECCW ring announcer Scotty Sweatervest has bid adieu to ECCW, as he has moved down to sunny Florida! In the meantime, a more than suitable replacement has been found, in 95 Crave's own Drew Savage! Savage will make his ring announcing debut on August 29th in Surrey, and we are thrilled to have Drew as a permanent part of the ECCW family!
HALLOWEEN HELL MOVED TO OCTOBER 24TH
The yearly Halloween Hell event at the Bridgeview Hall in Surrey, previously scheduled for Friday night, October 31st, has been moved one week earlier, to Friday night, October 24th. All previously purchased tickets will be honored.
MR2 DEBUTS "ON THE RUNWAY" AUGUST 30TH
Former NWA/ECCW tag team champion MR2 will be debuting his new interview segment, "On The Runway", on Saturday night, August 30th at the Russian Community Centre! "On The Runway" will be a Vancouver-exclusive event, as MR2 goes word for word with the stars of ECCW! MR2 has stated that wrestlers have been burning up his phone lines to "walk the catwalk" with him, and his first guests have already been decided... but who will they be? Find out on August 30th in Vancouver!
SUPERGIRLS AROUND NORTH AMERICA
SuperGirls champion Nicole Matthews made her debut in the ALF promotion in Montreal this past weekend, where she and her partner Portia Perez were victorious over 21st Century Fox & Shanay Nay. ALF is an all-female promotion much like the United States-based SHIMMER, where Nicole has wrestled a number of times over the past year. Nicole will also be wrestling in the Ontario-based PWA this coming weekend, and will be traveling to New Jersey and Florida to compete before the end of the month.
In addition, Nicole's longtime rival Veronika Vice recently made her SHIMMER debut, competing against the likes of Shark Girl and Ashley Lane. Veronika will be competing this weekend down in Washington state.
MORE EVENTS COMING SOON!
ECCW is currently in heavy negotiations to secure a live event in Nanaimo for the upcoming fall season. Stay tuned to ECCW.com for more information as soon as it becomes available!
RESULTS: El Phantasmo Wins Battlebowl!
The events of August 2nd's Battlebowl event have seen a shakeup in Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling, with the unlikely teamups forming new alliances, and a new number one contender crowned!
The event saw El Phantasmo establish himself as a force to be reckoned with in ECCW, as he parlayed a tag team victory by himself and frequent partner Kyle O'Reilly over the random team of Ice & Cole Bishop into a victory in the Battlebowl battle royal! The event came down to O'Reilly, Phantasmo, and Chill Town members Sid Sylum and Azeem The Dream who were attempting to ensure that their leader Scotty Mac would have no top contender to worry about! O'Reilly and Phantasmo were able to eliminate both Chill Town members, leaving it down to the two junior heavyweight stars - and after a sustained burst of heavy action between the two, Phantasmo was able to send O'Reilly over the top to the floor to win the battle royal and make himself the number one contender to the NWA/ECCW Championship! After months of turmoil, Phantasmo seems primed to wrest the biggest prize in ECCW away from Scotty Mac.. but he will now have huge hurdles to climb to get there, not just with Scotty Mac, but with his Chill Town cohorts as well!
While Chill Town was unable to keep Phantasmo away from top contendership, they may have succeeded in their long term goal - to keep Disco Fury away from the NWA/ECCW Championship. In another Battlebowl qualifer, Sid Sylum ended up paired with Artemis Spencer, the formerly masked Halo against Disco Fury... and a missing tag team partner. Before Disco's partner was revealed, Sylum and Spencer attacked Disco, subjecting him to a two-on-one attack for most of the contest. Disco was able to turn the tide, but when he went to tag his partner, that partner revealed himself... or rather, herself, as SuperGirls champion Nicole Matthews made it known that she had drawn the number to be Disco's tag team partner! Disco fought valiantly, but the two-on-one attack was too much to overcome, especially with the interference of his "tag team partner" making it three-on-one, as Sylum and Spencer scored the victory. However, they were not done, as Azeem The Dream came to ringside with a steel chair... and Sylum and Spencer combined with a vicious spiked Tombstone piledriver onto the steel chair, knocking Disco Fury unconscious! Referees and wrestlers scrambled to help Disco, who was hospitalized with a severe concussion and a "stinger" to his neck. Disco is out of action for an undisclosed period, and the dastardly Chill Town may have walked out of Battlebowl with one major victory.
Battlebowl also saw the battle between former Hardcore champion Cremator and self-proclaimed "NWA X-Treme F'N Champion" Ice intensify - especially with Ice's new association with his Battlebowl partner Cole Bishop! Cremator's music played several times during Ice's Battlebowl qualifier, which led to him being distracted enough to be pinned by Kyle O'Reilly. After Cremator's unsuccessful attempt to again wrest the ECCW Hardcore championship from Moondog Manson, Ice and Bishop attacked Cremator from behind. Amazingly, Manson returned to the ring and ran Ice and Bishop off with heavy strikes from his trusty barbed-wire baseball bat! Cremator and Manson then proclaimed their alliance, forged through their bloody barbed wire battles.. and threatened to demolish Ice's two championship belts if they did not get the match they wanted - a hardcore barbed-wire tag team match! Ice hemmed and hawwed but finally chose to save his two most prized possessions.. but with a decision that may mean the end of both himself and Cole Bishop, as Manson and Cremator have vowed to rip the two apart!
Another alliance seemed to be formed between Matt Classic and Memphis, as they gelled extremely well in their victory over Kenny Lush and Harv Sihra. The two continued their alliance in the battle royal, but Classic was eliminated early in the contest. As Classic was about to leave, The Divine Prophet intercepted him at ringside, proclaiming that Memphis, a man thought to be Classic's friend, had turned his back on him. "An eye for an eye", the Prophet decreed, and Classic made it so, reentering the match illegally and viciously attacking Memphis, crowning him with a package piledriver and throwing him over the top to the floor, eliminating him from Battlebowl! That quickly, the Prophet has made his presence felt in ECCW - and if he could sway the veteran Classic so quickly, who else in ECCW will fall into his congregation?
In the first Battlebowl qualifier, Azeem The Dream & Billy Suede scored the win over CJ Strongheart and Gurv Sihra, and in a non-Battlebowl dark match, "Mad Dog" Marty Sugar defeated ECCW Extreme Jobber champion "Dastardly" Danni Deeds.
ECCW returns to Surrey and Vancouver at the end of August, as we invade the Bridgeview Hall on Friday night, August 29th, and we return to the Russian Community Centre on Saturday night, August 30th! Already signed will be two defenses on consecutive nights by Scotty Mac, as in Surrey, he will defend the NWA/ECCW Championship against former titleholder Black Dragon, and the next night, Scotty will put the NWA Canadian heavyweight championship on the line against "Bomber" Nelson Creed! In addition, Cole Bishop & Ice will try to survive against the two most extreme men in ECCW, Hardcore champion Moondog Manson & Cremator, in hardcore tag team warfare! Tickets are on sale now here at ECCW.com!
