NWA/ECCW CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP DE-UNIFIED
For the last twelve months, myself and my Administration has overseen Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling with a fine eye toward the tremendous talent on display each and every match and each and every event. In that time, I’ve noticed a very encouraging trend – the amount of sheer talent being displayed by every competitor in ECCW, regardless of size. We’ve seen Scotty Mac go toe to toe and hold for hold with mammoths like J_SIN Sullivan. We’ve seen men like Bishop fly through the air like acrobats despite their enormous size. And most recently, we saw Artemis Spencer take the NWA/ECCW Canadian heavyweight championship from Tony Baroni in one of the best matches in recent memory.
In light of these events, it is the belief of my Administration that the concept of “weight divisions,” championed by the National Wrestling Alliance as a necessary evil, is archaic and obsolete. The size of the competitor does not matter – what matters is the God-given talent on display. As a result, I have issued the following rulings, effective immediately:
The NWA/ECCW Canadian Heavyweight Championship, unified earlier this year and currently held by Artemis Spencer, is officially de-unified. Spencer will remain the NWA Canadian Heavyweight Champion, with all the rights and privileges therein.
The NWA/ECCW Heavyweight Championship will be reborn, but without the shackles of weight divisions and weight limits. The championship will now be known simply as the ECCW Championship, and will be held not by the best heavyweight or junior heavyweight, but by the best WRESTLER in Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling.
An eight-man tournament will be held, beginning on Friday, December 26th at Season’s Beatings in Surrey. First-round matches will take place on December 26th in Surrey, January 7th in Vancouver and January 27th in Surrey. The eight men in the tournament have been randomly selected, to best illustrate the diverse level of competition in ECCW, regardless of size or weight.
DECEMBER 26TH – SURREY
* Cremator vs. Ray Brooks
* Bishop vs. El Phantasmo
JANUARY 7TH – VANCOUVER
* Alex Plexis vs. Pete Powers
JANUARY 27TH – SURREY
* Nick Price vs. the loser of the Artemis Spencer vs. Tony Baroni rematch on December 26th
The semifinals and the finals will take place on January 27th in Surrey, where we will see the crowning of a new ECCW Champion!
May the best man win, and may the best man represent ECCW as the new ECCW Champion.
